NOX Dojo Matters - August 2026
Congratulations to Our New Graduates
Congratulations to Nikolin (Aikido), Norman (Karate), Brandon Lau (Karate), Jason (Karate), and Kira (Karate) on successfully earning their Dan rankings in July.
Achieving a black belt is far more than passing a grading—it represents years of dedication, perseverance, and a sincere commitment to the Do (道), the lifelong path of self-improvement through martial arts. Each of these students has demonstrated the discipline, character, and determination required to reach this important milestone.
We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and look forward to supporting them as they continue their martial arts journey. After all, earning a black belt is not the end of the road—it is the beginning of a deeper commitment to learning, growing, and giving back to the dojo.
Good Luck at the Ontario Summer Games
Congratulations to three members of our Sport Karate team who have been selected by Karate Ontario to represent their region at the 2026 Ontario Summer Games.
The Ontario Summer Games provide one of the province's premier multi-sport experiences for young athletes. The event offers an opportunity to compete against Ontario's best, gain valuable high-performance competition experience, showcase their skills to provincial coaches, and experience the excitement of a true Games environment, complete with an Athletes' Village and Opening Ceremonies.
We wish Theodore, Charisma, and Nathan the very best as they take to the tatami at Conestoga College on July 31 and August 1. Their dedication, perseverance, and hard work have earned them this opportunity, and we are proud to support them as they strive to become 2026 Ontario Summer Games champions.
For Charisma and Theodore, the Ontario Summer Games also serve as an important stepping stone in their preparation for the PKF Junior Pan American Championships in Costa Rica this August, where they will represent Team Canada. Their selection continues a proud tradition at our dojo, marking the sixth consecutive year that our athletes have earned the honour of representing Canada at the Pan American Championships.
Good luck, Theodore, Charisma, and Nathan—we're cheering you on every step of the way!
Preparing for the 2027/2028 Competition Season
Coach Sean would like to thank our athletes and families for their understanding and support over the past year. Their patience allowed him to dedicate time to assisting his aging parents while ensuring they received the care they needed. As a result, the high-performance program operated with a smaller roster during the 2025/2026 season.
Looking ahead to the 2027/2028 competition season, we are once again recruiting motivated athletes who are committed to pursuing excellence in sport karate. We are seeking individuals who are prepared to dedicate approximately 8 to 15 hours per week to high-performance training and athletic development.
The amount of training required ultimately depends on an athlete's age, experience, and competitive aspirations. Whether your goal is to compete provincially, nationally, or internationally, consistent practice remains the single greatest predictor of improvement. Like any skill, the more purposeful hours invested, the greater the opportunity for success. Sport karate is no exception.
High-performance sport requires more than talent alone. It demands a significant investment of time, financial resources, commitment, and perseverance. Athletes who aspire to earn positions on the provincial or national team must also develop strong academic habits and effective time-management skills. Balancing school, training, competition, and recovery is challenging, and success in both academics and athletics requires discipline, planning, and personal responsibility.
For those willing to embrace the challenge, the rewards extend well beyond medals. High-performance training develops resilience, confidence, leadership, and life skills that will continue to benefit athletes long after their competitive careers have ended.
The chart below provides a general idea of requirements to be on our competition team.
