Our Instructors
Sean Wong – 7th Degree (Kyoshi), Owner & Head Instructor (Kancho)
Sean Wong has been teaching karate since 1985 and remains deeply passionate about every aspect of the discipline. Whether for sport, health, tradition, or simply enjoyment, he devotes much of his time to finding new ways to both improve and share his craft.
A highly accomplished martial artist, Sean has earned multiple national titles in the Masters division and proudly represented Canada at the 1997 World Karate and Kobudo Championships in Okinawa, Japan.
As the owner of NOX Dojo (Kancho), Sean leads the Karate program with dedication and consistency. His contributions extend beyond the dojo: he has served as the International Secretary of the Meibukan Hombu Dojo and of Karate Ontario, and continues to play an active role as both a committee member and a coach to national team athletes.
Outside of karate, Sean enjoys working with his hands—whether experimenting in the kitchen or making progress on his hot rod build. An avid traveler, he also loves meeting people and experiencing all that the world has to offer.
George Hewson - 7th Dan (Shihan)
In 2021, Shihan George Hewson attained the rank of shichidan (7th-degree black belt), marking a significant milestone in a distinguished aikido career. He has contributed over four decades of service to the governance of both the Ontario Aikido Federation and the Canadian Aikido Federation (CAF), including a term as President of the CAF. He presently serves on the CAF Examination Committee and, since the passing of Shihan Kawahara in 2011, has held the role of Sekininsha (“Liaison”) to the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, ensuring continuity in Canada’s connection to aikido’s international headquarters.
Parallel to his martial arts leadership, Hewson pursued a career in cultural education as a Teacher of World Cultures at the Royal Ontario Museum. His teaching encompassed the civilizations of ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome, alongside broader explorations of world history. His scholarly interests remain particularly focused on East Asian culture, with emphasis on the influence of Chinese philosophy on the Japanese samurai tradition. He is fluent in French and conversant in Spanish, Italian, and Japanese, reflecting both his academic breadth and intercultural engagement.
