August 6th, 2020 will mark the first time that Karate will make the Olympic Games since its quest from the 1970s. It hasn’t been an easy journey. Karate has been beaten out by sports such as golf and recently break dancing (Yes, break dancing) to make the cut. The latter, will replace Karate in Paris for the 2024 games which blew the wind out of the Karate sails to a devastating halt. So 2020 not only marks the first Karate Olympic Games, it could also be the last one for quite some time. Therefore NOX Dojo is planning to make the journey to where Karate was first recognized as a legitimate sport, Japan.
The tentative plan is to depart Toronto during the week of July 22nd and return during the week of August 10th. Plan for approximately 2 to 3 weeks. Along with attending the Olympics Games, we will be climbing Mount Fuji, and visiting either Kyoto or the World Heritage Site of Toshogu in the Nikko. On this trip, there are no plans yet to visit Okinawa due to an extremely busy schedule.
Our first meeting to will be on September 7th, at 12:30pm at the dojo. On the agenda is to come up with a committee, establish a wish list for everyone, discuss a typical budget of such a trip, and to close in on the actual dates we want to travel.
