Those who have been following my weight loss have been asking how true am I to my original diet when I lost 30 pounds in just 6 months. In total, I have lost about 40 now and I do fluctuate a few pounds from week to week depending on my exercise levels and diet. I continue to lose weight but at slower pace due to numerous factors which include illnesses, surgeries, and work schedule over this last summer.
I am diligent with my food consumption but I am much more flexible on the types of calories that go into my system. In the first 6 months, I avoided high fat and starchy foods electing just to consume soup, salad, and smoothies along with one normal meal per day. I would have a cheat meal on the weekend. My fave is spaghetti carbonara. Its high fat and starch content means that I could only have this rarely and even nowadays, it is limited to just a few times a year. My next cheat meal is Okinawa Rafute. Which is slow roasted pork bellies on a bed of Japanese rice. This meal is also high in fat and starch which limits me to just a few times per year also. Along with pizza and wings, there are enough temptations around me to enjoy sinful treats once or twice per week.
My biggest change in my diet has been the inclusion of a variety green leafy vegetables such as Chinese broccoli, bok choy, guylan, and kale. Steamed or quickly pan fried makes a delicious meal with lots of vitamins and fiber. Although, I no longer have soup, salad, and a smoothie on a daily basis, I still include them weekly. I have started to add the typical eggs in the morning once in a while but shy away from breads if I can. Because I don’t deny my love of different foods, I can’t really say that I have severe cravings. Every month or so, I will go back to my soup and salad diet for a couple of days but for the most part, I have adopted this form a paleo type meal plan as a regular part of my lifestyle
My goal is to become as lean as I was when I was in my 20’s by mid-summer. Crossing my fingers.
