AIKIDO SEISHINKAI

NOX Dojo is not just a Markham Karate Club, its a Markham Aikido Club too. “Aikido” means The Way of the Harmonious Spirit. Developed with the belief that individuals could blend their “Ki” (energy or spirit) with that of the universe, Aikido a system of self-discipline based on non-resistance rather than opposition.

The techniques of Aikido are primarily joint-locks, pins, and projections (rather than punches or kicks) with many resulting in throws or take-downs. It is a perfect compliment to Karate. Like all martial arts, Aikido training holistically addresses all six components of physical fitness: strength, stamina, power, speed, flexibility and agility. Unique to Aikido however is the focus of coordinating a meditative mind with the body through exercise, breathing, and the use of internal energy called Ki.

Aikido Seishinkai was originally established in 1995 by the husband and wife team of George (Shihan) and Gerry Hewson (7th and 4th degree black belts respectively). They both trained in Japan and have many years of teaching experience.
